About Me

Hello fellow runners! I’m Rachel, a student, a hard worker, a triathlete, and (what I enjoy most) a runner. I live in Durham, North Carolina where the trails are gorgeous and the weather is (almost) always perfect for a good run!

I started running while in highschool when I ran my first half marathon at the age of 17, the Shamrock Half Marathon. Ever since I felt the thrill of being surrounded by so many other runners and crossing that finish line after thirteen miles of running, I’ve been hooked! After running a few more races and knowing this is what I wanted to do with my life, I challenged myself to run a half marathon in every state!

I graduated from the University of North Carolina of Wilmington with a degree in English and a minor in Journalism but while in my last semester in school I decided to go on a different path after graduating. I finished my B.A. and am now going back to school to be a sonogram tech.

Hey Rachel, Great idea running coast-to-coast. Join us on Sunday, Oct. 27 at historic Marathon Park in Ashland MA for our 2nd annual half-marathon. Bill Rodgers runs our race which begins and ends where the first Boston Marathons began. You can run in the footsteps of legends and cross Massachusetts off your list at the same time.
    Hope you come,
    AHM committee

I also live in Wilmington and started running a couple years ago. While you were busy running RnRUSA half marathon, I ran the Wrightsville Beach Quintiles Half Marathon. I enjoyed checking out your blog!

    Rachel,

I really enjoyed your blog and I wanted to email you. I started a company in 2006 called Gracie’s Gear (www.graciesgearandtraining.com) where we sold sports bra’s and tanks to women with a patented zipper pouch. In 2008 I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and a few months following, my daughter developed an infection in her eye.
Long story short, I was thrilled to come across your blog. I wanted to in-turn, share something I’m doing right now.

I’m on Kickstarter trying to kickstart my company. My fight with cancer leaded me to shut my company down. But with the help of friends, fans, and family I’m trying to make a comeback.

I hope you enjoy our video and maybe feel compelled to share.

    Thanks Rachel! Take Care,

    -Gracie

Gracie, This sounds like a fabulous idea for a clothing line! I love the idea of having a bigger pocket in your top (opposed to the smaller ones in running skirts and shorts) and I love that you’re out of Raleigh! 🙂 You can email me at rihodges05@gmail.com I look forward to hearing from you! – Rachel
