13.1 Things I am Thankful For

26 Nov

Since before I started this blog I made a goal to run a half marathon in each state. I have come far since making that goal a handful of years ago but I still have so much more to go. One of my favorite quotes, and one I actually posted recently for a Motivational Monday, goes like this.

“When you start doubting yourself, remember how far you have come. Remember everything you have faced, all the battles you have won, and all the fears you have overcome.”

This is one of my favorite quotes because as stressed as I get sometimes about getting out of shape or having a ‘lazy day’, I just remember all that I have accomplished thus far and everything I’m thankful for. Which brings me into todays message about thankfulness. I have many many things to be thankful for so I’ve made a list of 13.1 of them, in no particular order. 🙂

1) My Health

I can’t express how incredibly thankful I am everyday that I am in good health. I’ve had my ups and downs but I’ve gotten through each sickness and injury and thankfully nothing in my past has been really bad. The worst of it all was probably when I broke my ankle and was out of running for months but even that time on crutches was an adventure of its own.

2) The Ability to Run

Brings me into my second note here, without running and fitness I would be a mess. Something about getting up and moving just brightens my day. Even just researching new exercise routines or healthy snacks, it always puts me in a good mood to think healthy!

3) Food!

Let’s be real… who ISN’T thankful for some good food! Granted, I’m not the best cook in the world ::insert sarcastic laugh here:: but I do enjoy what I can cook and an thankful that I have food to fill my fridge. The best food is always the warm, home-cooked meal you find when you get home from a long day!

4) My Parents

I wouldn’t be where I am in life without my Mom and Dad. I have had some pretty great challenges in my life but I am grateful to say both my parents have been there to support me through anything and everything I’ve been through. I tell myself everyday that I am so blessed to have such a great Mom and Dad!

5) My Sister and Brother

Yep, can’t leave out these two! We may not have always gotten along as kids (or even now) but truth be told, they are pretty great. My sister is so smart and I’ve always looked up to her, plus she laughs at my corny jokes! My brother is nerdy smart, meaning he is always spitting out the most random and useless information you will ever want (or not want) to know, and we have definitely grown closer these past few years.

6) My ‘I Run 4’ Buddy, Sara

It’s crazy to think I was paired with Sara about nine months ago but she has certainly brought so much joy and happiness into my life. I smile every time I get a post from her parents on Facebook and absolutely love getting updates about her and her family and how much hard work she is doing!

7) My Blog Readers

Sometimes when I look back at my blog I can’t believe how much I’ve grown in the past year and how many more followers I have now! It’s such a great feeling when I get a comment from a reader or even just looking at my views in the day, I am sometimes blown away by the love and support I get from everyone! Such a great feeling!

8) Friends

It hasn’t always been easy for me to make friends because I’m so shy, but the ones I have now are people I wouldn’t trade for anything! They’ve taught me the importance of a good friendship and so much more! They’ve supported me through my ups and downs and they are people I can truly always count on!

9) My Job

It’s not a full time job yet but at least it’s something and I sure am thankful for this “something” of a job! Actually, I feel really lucky to have the job that I do. I work in a non-profit organization where sometimes I do have to be in the office but other times I get to be in the wonderful outdoors with groups of children teaching them about the wilderness and watching them grow! It really is a rewarding job and I’m blessed to be part of this organization!

10) My Pets

It isn’t always easy cleaning up after your dogs accident inside, or waking up to cat puke on your bed sheets, or thinking you killed your Dad’s fish while he was away for a week… but it’s all rewarding in the end (after you find the fish is alive and well!). Anyone else who has pets, whatever the kind, will probably agree that not every moment is splendid but you forget about all the bad moments when you sit to watch TV at the end of the day and your dog comes to cuddle with you on the couch. So worth it!

11) Coffee

Yes, I am thankful for coffee! It wasn’t until college that I drank my first cup of coffee (and weeks later when I made my very first pot of coffee all by myself) but ever since than I have been hooked! I am thankful there is such a drink that I look forward to every morning and will put me in a good mood to start my day right!

12) The Opportunity to Travel

I am so incredibly blessed for the places I have traveled to with friends and family!!!! When I was younger I always loved the idea of traveling. At the age of 20 I was able to travel out of the country with my sister for a month which was amazing! Than just earlier this year I was able to take my dream trip to Australia and New Zealand with my Mom! There were many little trips in-between that were amazing and beautiful as well. I have my next trip planned and hope one day to be able to go to the next country on my list!

13) A Place to Call Home

Home. It’s somewhere I come home to at the end of the day, somewhere I can keep dry from a storm, or warm from the snow, or relax with my family. When you think about all the people who are homeless or have had a tremendous disasters wipe away the place they called home it really sets in and makes me thankful for this place I have lived in since I was little. Home.

.1) Sunrises

It’s something so small and yet sunrises are one of my favorite things. There are many reasons for this but one of the biggest reasons is that it means I have lived to see another day here on Earth with the ones I love.

What are YOU thankful for? Happy Thanksgiving!
